Homeowner HQ

Why We're NOT a DIY Network

Don't get us wrong, we love to get our hands dirty, but that’s not what we’re here for. We are not here to teach you how to be a jack/jill-of-all-trades and DIY your own home because we believe an investment this big shouldn't be learnt as you go.

Filling the boots of all the trades - that’s fear. Fear of hiring the wrong professional and getting taken advantage of, fear of level of competence, fear of unknown costs, fear of not being understood, and fear of lack of time (spoiler: it will take WAY more time if you DIY).

Perhaps they actually have the skills for it? You’re right, they could. But those aren't the stories you hear about. You hear about the ones who wanted to save money and thought it looked easy enough on TV.

They don't realize the homeowners position is already a full-time job. Understanding your own vision, working with all the trades, making 101 decisions, money management… the list goes on.

Instead of fear driving the homeowner towards the do-it-yourself mentality, we believe in supporting and educating you in becoming the best homeowner that you can be and a key position on your home project’s team.

Our mission of Homeowner HQ is to strengthen the knowledge, confidence, and position of a Homeowner and become an integral part of the team.

We're breaking down HGTV and the DIY Network "reality" as “the norm” by challenging it’s unrealistic timelines, costs and construction, poor advice, and shallow results with sharing honest and real-life professional and homeowner stories, experiences, and ideas.

We believe in reframing homeowners' perspectives from a misunderstood, unsure, potentially fear-driven, shaky ground to educated, understanding, and confident through honest and deep conversations, offering tangible, actionable, and progressive steps, and learning how to do it all as a team.

We promote supporting each other through this journey of understanding every trade, product and process, countless decisions, big emotions, and highs and lows.

So if you want to get your hands dirty, do what you already know how to do. Paint? Yes. Have a green thumb? Get planting. Want to help with some of the demo? Just ask.

But if you’re not doing your job as the homeowner, your project will suffer.

Don’t wear all the (hard) hats and spread yourself thin. Your job can only be done by you, and it’s a bigger job than you might think, so focus on that one job and do it really well.

(you can thank us later 😉)
